北海道ホームステイ

今週は、８月にある北海道のホームステイプログラムが紹介されたので、夏の予定に思いを馳せる学生が多かったようです。このプログラムはＫＣＰの主催ではありませんが、毎年数名以上の学生が参加しています。今年は特に関心が強いようで、かなりの数の学生が詳しい内容を聞きに来ています。
このプログラムの人気の源は、「北海道」と「ホームステイ」にあります。日本人にとっても北海道、特に夏の北海道は大いに気をそそられるものがあります。東京では味わえないせせらぎの音、花の香り、澄み切った空気、そしておいしい食べ物…。それに加えて、東京のアパート暮らしとは違って人間味あふれるホームステイができるのですから、人気が出ないわけがありません。
参加した学生からは、自分の知らなかった日本を知るのと同時に、自分の国を見つめなおすきっかけにもなったという声を聞きます。東京ではさほど珍しくない「外国人」も、北海道の片田舎まで行くと大いなる好奇心の対象です。受け入れ先の人たちは、１～２週間という限られた期間内で濃密な触れ合いをしようと考えていますから、学校やアルバイト先とは違ったまなざしが待ち受けているのです。
申し込み書類をもらった学生は、担任の先生に推薦書を依頼したり、自分でそろえねばならない書類をそろえたりと、活発に動き始めています。このプログラムに参加して、一回り大人になって留学生活をよりいっそう充実したものにしてもらえたらと思っています。
